olive, olive, we love olive...

the other day, we finally got out of the house to have some family fun. ryan had to work his whole break and we didn't get much time to do anything. so our outing was to consist of going to several places to shop. however, it ended up being pizza hut, and the best buy parking lot. yeah, we finally made it out to eat lunch (at 3:00) then ryan and lucy went to best buy while i fed olive in the car (btw, between 2 car seats without flashing anyone). so, ryan and lucy finished up their trip, and while i was changing olive's diaper...she pooped all in my lap. yeah, so basically, i was squeezed between the car seats covered in poop with a screaming baby and lucy hitting me and olive in the head b/c she was so close...why not. so we stopped at walmart for ryan to run in and get a few things we needed...again, still covered in poop. while he was in walmart, lucy and i sang "olive, olive, we love olive," to keep her from getting upset. except for lucy doesn't really say olive, she says something that sounds like "ah-yiv, ah-yiv, ah-yiv," over and over again, as loud as she can. so now whenever olive gets upset and lucy actually notices, she sings "ah-yiv, ah-yiv, ah-yiv." and sometimes it actually does help...
here are a few recent pictures i took of miss olive today. today she started actually smiling consistently, like she's doing it on purpose...and it's not just gas. she looks like she has such a personality in these pictures. the rest of them are on my flickr page. she's so laid back, as you can tell from the pictures. she's just fitting right in with all of us. lucy is not as violent with her anymore, even though she has had her moments. they tend to come in spurts where she hits everyone on the head though, not just olive.

my favorite times...

here's little olive sleeping next to me while i'm blogging.
i must say, my favorite times of day are in the morning when everyone is waking up and in the evening when it's time to go to bed. mainly because in the morning, we all pile into our bed, where we watch mickey mouse clubhouse until ryan can't take it anymore and changes the channel. we mainly have to keep lucy from kicking olive in the head because she can get a bit silly. we are not morning people, so we stay in bed as long as we possibly can. this leads to a lot of crumbs in our bed because we let lucy eat breakfast in our bed. however messy it may be, it's always nice to spend that time together.
ryan always calls me an old person because i've started going to bed so early. it mainly started when i was pregnant and went to bed at like 8:30 every night because i was so exhausted. now, i love to lay with the girls in our bed before we make lucy go to bed. sometimes she just crashes and falls out completely. other times, she could be so near sleep, but if ryan comes to get her she gets up and tries to run away from him on the bed. and eventually gives in. in the bottom picture, you can't see it, but lucy is also holding her nativity figurines. apparently mickey and goofy were at jesus' birth. btw, nice hair lucy.
3 weeks already

i can't believe little olive is already 3 weeks old today. if i were and emotional mom, i might just shed a tear...oh wait, i am. it is flying by so fast. she is still doing great! i think she may be tall b/c all these little outfits she has, they look like shorts on her...and they're not supposed to be. olive is sleeping through the night or only waking up once a night, which is great. i'm getting more sleep now than i did when i was pregnant! she definitely loves to sleep, like her mom. she is about to move to her pak n play next to us...it's getting a little crowded. however, i guess we should get it ready, since it is buried underneath a mound of clothes...i knew that would happen.
now for lucy...well, let's just say she's beginning to show her true colors as far as her jealously. generally she's fine as long as there's someone else around during the day to share attention. however, when it's just olive, lucy, and mommy...it makes for a long day. i know it will get easier. but for now, there are multiple screaming fits yelling no, no, no, for no apparent reason. it's very frustrating, but it's going to have to get better. i think we will definitely return to work at the church in january just for her to have another outlet to play and be with others...and learn to share.
today, she got her shots...sad day. of course, she had no clue what was coming. luckily, ryan came with us, although sometimes he cries as much as she does, which doesn't help. he did good today though, which was good b/c she freaked out. overall, it went okay. you just hate that they are not expecting this horrible pain, and they just look at you like "what is going on and why aren't you stopping it." it's so sad.
ryan and i have hardly seen each other this week. however, we did get to go out to dinner and a concert tuesday night. he has a major man-crush on kevin max, who was playing at the rev room. i just went b/c his guitar player is hot, and i got to get out of the house. anyway, you can read his blog about the concert here. i think we'll be decorating our christmas tree tonight. lucy has already started pulling out ornaments and made a big mess, so i guess we should put them on the tree!
new pictures...
here are a few pictures of olive i took today. don't worry, olive wasn't harmed in any of the ones with lucy. they were being closely supervised! lucy just loves her little sister...a little too much sometimes! to see the whole set, go to my flickr page.

out of the house...

so, just an update on our lives here lately...

olive is now 11 days old and already changing so much! she went to the doctor yesterday and she weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. I was so excited b/c lucy lost a whole pound right after she was born and was not a good eater at all. miss olive is quite the opposite...she loves to eat and is good at it, clearly. by far, breast-feeding is probably the hardest thing i've ever done. no one warns you how freaking painful it is and how much of your life it takes up. and, like i said, we had a terrible time with lucy. but this time is going much better. overall, everything is going a lot smoother, i guess b/c we've done this before. olive actually sleeps most of the night...which is just weird to me. she sleeps in her little sleeper between us in our bed. but she will be moving to her bed very soon.

ryan and i were able to get out of the house sunday night to go out to eat. we left lucy with her aunt ann and took olive with us...and she was good. of course, you get the looks from people of "how dare you take this tiny thing out of the house...she will catch cold and die." well, whatever. i have to get out of the house, and i'm not passing my kid around for everyone in the place to hold and breathe on. she's fine. it was nice though, to go out to eat and not have to share my food with lucy who won't eat it anyway. it was quite peaceful. ryan actually took our picture, of course. i had to hold her the whole time i ate....but she was quiet, so it was worth it.
we are now in the process of trying to clean up the wreck this house has become in the last couple of days. and getting ready for ryan to go back to work...sad day. he goes back thursday and i don't think i'm ready for that! we paid a visit to abpg yesterday for all ryan's co-workers to see miss olive, and she was a hit! i will hopefully be posting a couple of new pictures soon, i'm falling off on the job!
